I am Savannah and I have the honor of being Delta Alpha’s Director of Community Service for 2017! I am so thankful for my assistant, Asia Dean, who helps me tackle every task that comes my way. Together, we will plan and organize our philanthropy events for the year.
Delta Alpha has the privilege of supporting the East Tennessee chapter of Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life threatening illnesses to enrich human experience with hope, strength, and joy. We love knowing that the money we raise through our philanthropy events helps to grant wishes of children right here in East Tennessee.
In the past, Delta Alpha has helped to send Wish Kids to Atlantis, Disney World, Hawaii, and to swim with sharks in the Bahamas. We are blessed to have a close working relationship with the East Tennessee Chapter of Make-A-Wish, and we strive to constantly support their good works. We do this by volunteering at the Wish Bowl, working fundraisers, lending a hand at their office, and by being Wish Granters.
Last spring, Delta Alpha hosted our first ever Swishes For Wishes basketball tournament! The event was a slam dunk and we raised $14,585 for Make-A-Wish. Because of Swishes For Wishes, Delta Alpha raised more money in one single event than ever before.
We’re excited to announce that at our 2nd Annual Swishes For Wishes basketball tournament on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 we surpassed our prior record and raised $15,000 to support Make-A-Wish!
In Delta Alpha, we love traditions! One of our favorites is our annual Chili Cook-Off for Make-A-Wish. The Chili Cook-Off brings UTC and the Chattanooga community together for a night full of chili, s’mores and fun! Most recently, at our 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off, we raised $14,711 thanks to the support of other UTC organizations and the generous community we live in!
In the last three years the Delta Alpha Chapter of Chi Omega has raised over $60,000 for Make-A-Wish East Tennessee. Philanthropy is the core of Chi Omega and is something that every sister holds dear to their heart. My sisters and I cannot wait to see what amazing things 2017 brings.
